In our world, it is almost a truism to say that communication is very important in all our relationships. Yet not only may we find ourselves at times deliberately sabotaging communication in our dealings with others, but the truth is we do not know what it truly means to communicate. Not surprisingly, Jesus in his Course offers a very different perspective on communication, which challenges many of our most deeply held beliefs. This program—through readings and discussion—will explore the different levels and purposes of communication as presented by the Course, ranging from the ego’s distorted and fragmented view (T-4.VII.2:1-4) to the highest level of communication, which Jesus says is synonymous with creation (T-4.VII.3:6). Challenging ideas to be examined include: “only minds communicate” and bodies do not (T-7.V.2:1); the body is not necessary for communication (T-15.XI.7:2); the body in fact was made “to limit communication” (T-15.IX.3:3-4; W-72.2:3-4); and the only useful purpose for the body is as a means of communication for healing the mind and returning to wholeness (T-6.V-A.5:5; T-8.VII).
